The Night of the Little Candles

Candles in a theatre doorway.
Tonight was Bogotá's annual Noche de las Velitas, or the Night of the Little Candles, when neighbors, most of all in La Candelaria, light candles on their windowsills, sidewalks and doorways, creating beautiful scenes.

The Callejon del Embudo.

The Chapel on La Plaza del Chorro was open for a rare service.

Pedestrians on Carrera 2.

It's not only an old tradition in Bogotá, it happens in the whole country; there are also torch marches in towns and flags dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

Of course you're very right.

In Bogotá, however, it seems to me that the tradition is strongest in La Candelaria, the historical center. But I could be wrong...
